Meta Quest

Meta Quest might add single window screensharing in VR soon

Introduction

A yet-to-be-launched “share” feature for Meta Quest VR headsets might have been spotted inside the operating system’s code. The new feature might allow you to share views of single 2D windows on your headset with other Quest users, according to UploadVR.
In a post on X, a VR fan known as Luna who posts extensively about headsets, did a deep dive into the Horizon OS code and found a string inside version 76 with what looks like tooltip text for a “share” ability that “shares a panel so that other users in your world can see it,” as well as an opposing “unshare” string.

Strings in Quest/Horizon OS v76 PTC suggest that Meta is working on the ability to share windows with other users in Horizon Home (and possibly Worlds). This will likely work similarly to SharePlay on visionOS. pic.twitter.com/ZudymM05XJ— Luna (@Lunayian) March 22, 2025

UploadVR speculates that this feature could allow you to share things like your web browser or other windows within your virtual home. The Quest already has some sharing capabilities: you can share first-person VR or mixed reality views with others. YouTube VR also already allows Meta Quest users to watch videos together. But right now, there aren’t other apps that allow sharing a specific two-dimensional window.
Luna compared this new feature to Apple’s SharePlay on VisionOS, which supports multiple apps, including Hulu, Max, Apple TV Plus, and more. Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
